Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Sunday 26.03.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be aware of isolated wind slabs, otherwise stable conditions. Small loose snow avalanches may occur on steep slopes exposed to the sun.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 25. March 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 25. March 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -16 °C to -3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 26. March 2023

1 mm precipitation, up to 6 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from east, changing to breeze from the northeast during renoon. -17 °C to -3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
